Edo Lawmaker Defects From PDP To APC

A lawmaker representing the Esan South-East constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Ojiezele Osezua Sunday, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osezua, who was originally elected on the APC platform in 2019, was among the 10 lawmakers inaugurated by the former Governor, Godwin Obaseki. However, he later switched to the PDP and was re-elected in the 2023 general elections.

Osezua explained that his decision to leave the PDP was due to the deepening crisis within the party at both the state and national levels. He described his return to the APC as a “homecoming.” In the 2024 governorship election, he had represented the PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo. Following his defection, Osezua promised to attract more supporters to the APC.

Ojiezele Osezua was warmly received by the APC’s Acting State Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, and other members of the state executive council. Tenebe expressed confidence that more members from opposition parties would join the APC in the future.

Currently, the PDP holds 14 seats in the 24-member Edo State House of Assembly, the APC has 9, and the Labour Party holds 1 seat.
