Mohbad’s Close Associate Opens Up On Artiste’s Death

Ayobami Sodiq, popularly known as Spending and a close associate of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, has denied allegations of withholding information regarding the artiste’s death.

Sodiq’s previous statements about his last encounter with Mohbad have sparked controversy, with reports highlighting inconsistencies in the timeline he provided.

In a detailed statement shared on his social media platforms on Monday, Sodiq clarified that he last saw Mohbad alive between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., not at 9 p.m. as he earlier claimed during a TikTok livestream in February 2024. He attributed the earlier misstatement to the emotional and psychological trauma he endured following Mohbad’s sudden demise.

“I would like to clarify that the last time I saw him alive was between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.,” Sodiq wrote. “In February, shortly after my release from detention, I appeared on Westo’s TikTok livestream to appreciate those who contributed to my bail. During the session, Westo asked when I last saw Mohbad, and I mistakenly said it was at 9 p.m. on Monday after we returned from a show.”

Sodiq explained that his wrongful detention and accusations of being at Mohbad’s residence on the day of his death took a toll on his mental health, leading to his earlier error.

“The timing I gave was inaccurate,” he admitted. “I had suffered emotionally, dealing with anxiety and the psychological trauma of Mohbad’s unexpected passing. I was wrongfully accused of being at his house on that day and detained at the police station. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind when Westo asked the question.”

Sodiq expressed his continued grief over Mohbad’s passing and reiterated his commitment to clearing his name amidst the controversy.
