Not Easy Journey Fighting Evil, Dele Farotimi Says After Release
Prominent human rights lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, has been released from detention after meeting bail conditions set by an Ekiti State magistrate’s court.
Farotimi was detained following a defamation case filed by the police over allegations made in his book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, which referenced senior lawyer Afe Babalola.
Last Friday, the court granted Farotimi bail, imposing conditions that included a ₦30 million bond, two sureties, the submission of his international passport, and a restriction on media engagements.
Following his release, Farotimi expressed gratitude to his supporters, acknowledging the sacrifices made by those who stood by him throughout his ordeal.
Reflecting on his advocacy journey, he reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to truth and justice, despite the challenges.
“It is never an easy journey when you are fighting evil,” Farotimi remarked. “Years ago, when I started this walk, God told me clearly: once have I spoken, twice have I heard that power belongs to Him. The truth is enough; it is the only weapon by which you can slay the monster called Nigeria.”
He further emphasized that honesty has been central to his activism, stating, “In my public advocacy, my fight, and my wars against this evil empire we all live in, I have never lied against anyone. If I don’t know, I’ll say I don’t know.”
