Fire Razes Section Of Lagos Popular Market
A fire outbreak on Thursday destroyed a section of the plank market on Pipeline Street, Ikotun, Lagos State, leaving four shops gutted.
The fire incident, which caused panic among traders and residents, was swiftly contained by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency responders.
In a statement, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the Agency’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando played a critical role in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. He added that the quick response and effective coordination ensured minimal damage.
“Preliminary investigations could not ascertain the cause of the fire as of the time of this report,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated, adding that there were no casualties or injuries recorded during the incident.
GWG.ng reports that the fire at the plank market came hours after another blaze at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi. LASEMA disclosed that the FIIRO fire resulted from an overheating generator in use at the facility.
Emergency responders were also able to contain the FIIRO fire without any reported injuries or loss of life.
