Anthony Joshua's Trainer on defeat

Anthony Joshua’s trainer, Ben Davison, has revealed that there were issues leading up to the boxer’s September 2024 fight against Daniel Dubois.

This fight ended with Joshua suffering his fourth professional defeat, a significant setback for the former unified heavyweight champion who aimed to regain his title and become a three-time world champion.

The fight did not go as planned for Joshua. He was knocked down twice in the early rounds, and the contest ended in the fifth round when the referee stopped the fight. This marked a disappointing moment in Joshua’s career. Dubois, the current IBF world champion, delivered an outstanding performance, widely regarded as one of the best in his career.

Dubois has had a tumultuous boxing journey, including defeats to fighters like Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk, but he has also achieved remarkable wins against opponents such as Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic.

Reflecting on Joshua’s defeat, Davison told talkSPORT Boxing that some mistakes were made in preparation for the fight. He admitted, “Amongst ourselves, we know where things went wrong. It’s important that we don’t appear to be making excuses, but there were areas we could have handled better leading up to the fight. You can’t point the blame; we have to own it. That’s what we’ve done.”

Despite speculation about Joshua pursuing an immediate rematch, he has chosen to step away from the ring temporarily to recover from minor injuries sustained during the fight.

Meanwhile, Dubois is gearing up to defend his title against former champion Joseph Parker on February 22nd in Saudi Arabia. This event will also feature a rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, promising an exciting night for boxing fans.
