Veteran Nollywood star, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has sparked a conversation about why many women remain unmarried in their 30s.

In an interview with News Central, Kanayo shared his views, which have generated a lot of debate on social media.

Kanayo believes that the choices women make in their 20s significantly impact their chances of marrying later in life. He pointed out that many women prefer dating older, wealthier men, who are often already married.

Instead of considering younger men who might be more suitable for long-term relationships, these women focus on the material benefits, like expensive cars and homes, that older men can offer. Kanayo argues that this focus on materialism often leads to missed opportunities for marriage as women age.

He describes a typical scenario where a young woman, in her late teens or early twenties, starts dating an older, wealthy man. Although this relationship may provide financial comfort, it can also prevent her from forming a lasting bond with someone closer to her age. As she gets older, this pattern can lead to being single by the time she reaches her late 20s or early 30s.

Kanayo also raised concerns about societal pressures on women regarding marriage. He pointed out that by the time women hit their 30s, the pressure to settle down can become intense, leading to what he calls a “state of emergency” in their search for a partner. He believes this urgency is fueled by societal norms that place marriage as a critical milestone in a woman’s life.
