Wike’s Rivers Critics Reply: Tinubu Was Our Problem, Not Fubara
By Mani Imman
Senator Lee Maeba has faulted Federal Capital Territory, FCT minister Nyesom Wike over his claim that erstwhile Peoples Democratic Party PDP chairman Prince Uche Secondus was opposed to the emergence of Governor Simi Fubara as the candidate of the party in the 2022 primaries saying that on the contrary that Bola Tinubu was their problem.
GWG.ng had reported Wike as telling party loyalists in Port Harcourt during the Yuletide holidays that Secondus became embittered because of the emergence of Fubara over Ikuru and for that reason, he Wike championed his removal as PDP chairman.
“I orchestrated Secondus’ removal as PDP National Chairman when he tried to impose his cousin as governor. Now he calls himself the governor’s friend while labeling me the enemy. To God be the glory,” Wike declared.
Reacting to the claim by Wike in a telephone call to GWG.ng, Senator Lee Maeba said that the point of divergence between him, Secondus, Austin Opara on one part and Wike on the other was the decision not to back Atiku Abubakar and support Tinubu.
Lee Maeba added that the group with Wike as leader held on after the governorship primaries despite the emergence of Fubara noting that the discord only came after the national convention where Atiku emerged.
“You will notice that we were together even after the governorship primaries where Simi won and Secondus did not bicker despite the fact that Tele is his cousin.
“Even Austin Opara was his returning officer at the PDP National Convention. Our problems with him started when he vowed not to support PDP and that he would rather back Tinubu. We all said no. That was our real problem,” Senator Maeba who served two terms in the Seante between 2003 and 2011 said.
