Elon Musk’s Starlink Hikes Nigeria Subscription Fees

on

The monthly subscription for the starlink Standard (Residential) package will now cost ₦75,000, nearly double its previous price of ₦38,000.

Starlink revealed this change in subscription rate in a notice sent to customers, attributing the increase to its commitment to enhancing infrastructure and ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-quality service across Nigeria.

According to the notice, the new pricing takes immediate effect for new customers, while existing customers will experience the hike starting January 27, 2025. Other subscription packages, such as Mobile Regional (Roam Unlimited) and Mobile Global (Global Roam), will now cost ₦167,000 and ₦717,000, respectively on the Starlink platform.

This development comes shortly after a recent directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which industry experts speculate may have influenced the pricing adjustments.

Telecommunication giants like MTN, Glo, and Airtel are reportedly expected to implement similar increases in their tariffs, raising concerns among Nigerians about the rising cost of internet access in the country.

Customers have been advised to explore Starlink’s digital channels for seamless subscription renewals and inquiries. Meanwhile, reactions from users on social media highlight a mix of frustration over the price surge and hope for improved service quality to justify the cost.

As the nation grapples with these changes, industry watchers will be closely monitoring how this impacts Nigeria’s internet landscape and accessibility.
