The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has categorically denied rumors of an impending telecommunications tariff increase, allegedly set to take effect in January 2025.

The NCC described the reports of a tariff hike as false, urging subscribers to disregard the misleading information.

In a statement addressing the claims, a senior NCC official clarified that the commission operates under a transparent framework established by the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) on issues of tariff hikes. This process mandates comprehensive stakeholder consultations and strict adherence to due process before any tariff adjustments can be considered or approved.

“These rumors are baseless and misleading,” the official stated. “The NCC remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring that any potential tariff changes are communicated clearly and transparently. Subscribers can rest assured that no tariff increase has been approved.”

The Commission also appealed to media professionals and industry stakeholders to verify information before publication, emphasizing the critical role of accurate reporting in preventing unnecessary panic among the public.

As the NCC continues to prioritize consumer protection and industry stability, the agency reassured Nigerians of its dedication to fostering trust and transparency within the telecommunications sector as it denied the rumours of a tariff hike.
