“This Is Me, Daughter Of The Emir Of Kano On The Streets Of Lagos” Princess Zainab Goes Begging Again
By Benjamin Abioye
Daughter of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, Zainab Ado-Bayero, shared a deeply emotional video about her struggles following her father’s death.
In the viral clip, Zainab expressed feelings of being stranded and abandoned, revealing that she had been living in difficult conditions since her father passed away. She stated that, despite her noble lineage, she had been left without support and was struggling to make ends meet.
In the video, Zainab narrated her situation: “I’m outside the streets of Lagos, nowhere to go, stranded, I don’t know anyone, I’m a few meters away from Eko Hotel. We have nowhere to go, since morning we’ve been trying to get somebody to help us. I can’t keep doing this, this is me, daughter of the Emir of Kano, on the streets of Lagos, unsafe, stranded, no one cares if I live or die. No one owes me anything, fine, but I at least deserve to feel safe, protected.”
Zainab’s admission of hardship has drawn widespread reactions, with many questioning the veracity of her claims. While she expressed profound frustration over her current state, saying, “My father left me with nothing, no education, no home, nothing,” others have suggested that there may be more to the story. Some pointed out the apparent contradictions in her statements, like her eloquent speech and ability to navigate Lagos despite claiming to be stranded. “From Kano straight to V.I, how?” one commentator asked, questioning how she ended up in such a situation despite her background.
Zainab also revealed that her family had been depending on her, adding, “My mum and my junior brother depended on me. I don’t have any means to keep doing this. I’m exhausted, emotionally, physically, and I don’t know what to do, I don’t know who to turn to.” Despite her pleas for help, she mentioned that she had already reached out to various officials, including the president, the governor, and the current Emir of Kano, but felt that no one was listening. “I’ve spoken out in the media, I’ve pleaded with the president, I’ve pleaded with the governor, I’ve pleaded with the current Emir Sanusi,” she said. “But it’s obvious nobody cares if I live or die, and I want to end it because I can’t keep doing this.”
The emotional video has sparked a flood of comments online. Some sympathized with her struggles, while others questioned her repeated public pleas. One user suggested that Zainab’s background might be influencing her perception of her situation, saying, “You only think you are stranded because your father was Emir, and you feel entitled to a life different from your experience.” Another commenter questioned her entitlement, saying, “Where’s her own share of the wealth her late father left for them?”
On the other hand, some responses pointed to possible family dynamics, suggesting that Zainab’s challenges may stem from hidden issues within the royal family. One user commented, “I’m very sure her mother may not be at number 1 or 2, and this is what happens when your mother comes far behind; the senior wives would have shared the most things among themselves.” Another reaction speculated about her refusal to follow traditional practices, with a user saying, “I sense this lady doesn’t live in a Sharia way. She must have refused to be married off at a tender age and other stuff like that, hence everyone cares less about her.”
While Zainab’s outcry has captured public attention, her case remains surrounded by questions. Several commenters wondered why, given her privileged background, she hadn’t found alternative means of support, such as taking up a job or starting a small business. “Abi dis girl dey on colos?” asked one, questioning how someone with her background could be in such a situation.
Despite the varied responses, one thing is clear: Zainab’s plea has sparked a broader conversation about entitlement, family dynamics, and the challenges faced by those in the spotlight, even when their backgrounds suggest they should have every advantage. As her story unfolds, many are left wondering what factors are truly at play behind her repeated calls for help.
