Ayodele on Sharia Law in Oyo

Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has advised Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to address the proposed implementation of Sharia law in the state. He warned that if left unchecked, this proposal could create significant unrest and lead to a prolonged religious crisis in the region.

Through a statement issued by his media aide, Ayodele cautioned that introducing Sharia law in Oyo State or Yorubaland would not be suitable and could undermine the government.

“The proposed establishment of Sharia law isn’t appropriate in Yorubaland, and this is going to cause nuisance to the government,” he said. He added that such a move lacks relevance and would fail to bring any meaningful benefit to the state or country.

Ayodele emphasized that the proposal could incite religious conflict and discredit Governor Makinde’s administration. “Seyi Makinde should be careful not to ruin Oyo because they won’t be able to sustain it. This will lead to a religious crisis and doesn’t have any relevance. It is not in people’s interest; it’s a means to cause division. It will be a disaster for the state and country,” he warned.

The cleric also criticized Nigerian leaders for failing to focus on initiatives that promote growth and development. He stated that Sharia law would not contribute to progress but instead deepen divisions. “Sharia law will make no sensible impact on the country. We don’t have leaders that understand the instruments that will bring development. All we should be thinking about is development, but instead of focusing on that, they are dragging religion into the system,” he said.

Primate Ayodele urged the Oyo State government to prioritize development initiatives over divisive policies, such as the proposal on Sharia Law, stressing that sustainable progress should be the primary goal.
