NNPCL Clears The Air On Kyari’s Retirement
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has debunked circulating rumours suggesting that its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, is set to retire in January 2025.
In a statement, debunking the claims that Kyari is set to retire, the NNPCL emphasized that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who doubles as Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum, holds the authority to determine Kyari’s tenure.
Speculations that Kyari is about to retire from the NNPCL has been gaining traction ahead of his 60th birthday on January 8.
Reports suggested that he might step aside and be replaced by Bayo Ojulari, an oil and gas professional from Kwara State. However, NNPCL has categorically dismissed these claims as unfounded.
“Decisions regarding the position of the Group Chief Executive Officer are entirely at the discretion of the President,” the company stated.
NNPCL further stressed that its leadership appointments are merit-based and prioritize skill, performance, and professional competence over ethnicity, religion, or other personal considerations.
