Obi Laments! Friends Run Away From Me At Airports
By Benjamin Abioye
The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has lamented what he described Thursday as the increasing culture of political suppression in the country saying that friends no longer want to relate with him at airports in other public places.
GWG.ng reports that Obi spoke as he dismissed claims of a merger with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Obi said that based on the culture of suppression that friends now run away from him at airports and in other public spaces becuase they do not want to be persecuted by the All Progressives Congress, APC administration.
Dismissing claims of an imminent merger among opposition parties, Obi rather urged all Nigerians committed to change to unite in 2027 to challenge the current administration, which he accused of poor governance and resource mismanagement. He emphasized the need for collaboration among those who care about the nation’s future to bring about meaningful change.
Addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, Obi described the loss of lives due to banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping as deeply tragic. He also criticized the current government for corruption and high governance costs, which he said have significantly increased the country’s debt.
In the 2023 election, Obi came third, following the APC and PDP candidates. Despite this, there have been speculations about a potential alliance between Obi and other opposition leaders for the 2027 elections. However, Obi reiterated that no such deal has been reached at this time even as he drew attention to alleged persecution of potential political allies with his narration of experience with friends at airports.
Obi and other prominent figures in opposition politics continue to stress the importance of addressing the country’s pressing issues, including insecurity, corruption, and economic mismanagement, as a priority for future leadership.
