Disruptive Passenger Detained Abuja

An Air France passenger arriving from France without a Nigeria visa caused commotion at the Abuja airport after he attempted to breach arrival procedures on New Year Day.

The passenger, who lacked a Nigerian visa, was immediately detained by airport authorities. Despite efforts by the French Embassy and a medical professional to manage the situation, the man’s conduct worsened, prompting additional action from airport officials.

The incident took a new turn when British Airways also had to deboard the same passenger after he caused further disturbances. His attempt to board a flight with Asky Airlines the following day was thwarted due to issues with his e-ticket, which lacked proof of payment. This left him stranded at the airport, where his erratic behavior escalated. He was seen screaming and creating chaos in the terminal, even demanding his passport while trying to exit the airport.

As the situation spiraled, immigration officials took necessary steps to prevent him from leaving the airport, retaining his passport to prevent a potential escape. Miriam Anosike, the regional head of NCAA Consumer Protection, stepped in, stressing that it was Air France’s responsibility to manage the passenger’s return to France. She urged the airline to act swiftly and arrange for his departure, as his presence had become a significant liability.

Throughout the ordeal, immigration officers remained composed and handled the situation with professionalism, ensuring that order was maintained despite the tense and disruptive circumstances. The French national was later housed in an airport hotel while awaiting his eventual departure.
