Fubara Issues Final Warning To Wike’s Troops
By Benjamin Abioye
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has issued a last warning to his foes affirming that he will no longer tolerate insults from supporters of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Governor Fubara gave the warning at the state House in Port Harcourt on Thursday after signing the ₦1.1 trillion 2025 budge as he expressed frustration over persistent criticisms.
Addressing the controversy surrounding his decision to present the budget to three lawmakers, Fubara explained that 27 members of the State House of Assembly who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) had lost their seats permanently. According to him, there is no possibility of their return to the Assembly.
“There is only one Assembly, and it is headed by Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo,” Fubara clarified. He dismissed the idea of a factional Assembly and criticized the defectors for their actions. “A group of friends embarked on a journey and realized too late that they were heading into danger. Now they want to retreat, but it is too late. We have given them enough chances for peace,” he said.
Besides the warning, Governor Fubara also emphasized his commitment to defending the interests of Rivers State. “There is no governor in Nigeria who can endure the kind of insults I have taken from this group. Our focus is now on the interests of Rivers State and upholding the integrity of governance. We have moved on,” he stated.
Fubara expressed gratitude to the legitimate Assembly and his administration for their hard work. He promised to surpass the achievements of 2024 in the coming year. “We will ensure that 2025 records even greater performance. I thank the Assembly for their diligence and for ensuring we start the New Year on the right track,” he said.
The governor also praised the support from members of the State Executive Council, including the Deputy Governor, the Commissioners for Finance and Budget, and the acting Chairman of the Rivers State Internal Revenue Board.
Looking ahead, Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling promises in education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure. “We will continue to protect, defend, and promote the interests of Rivers State. Our people deserve real progress, and we are determined to deliver,” he concluded.
