Lagos 2027: Rhodes-Vivour Confirms Ambition (Video)
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, popularly known as GRV, has declared his intention to contest the Lagos State governorship election in 2027, reaffirming his political ambition during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Rhodes-Vivour, who contested the 2023 Lagos governorship race under the Labour Party (LP) but lost to incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), hinted at the need for opposition unity in the forthcoming 2027 election in Lagos.
“By God’s grace, yes,” he said when asked about his 2027 ambition to contest for the Lagos state governorship election. However, he refrained from confirming whether he would contest under the LP platform or another political party.

“I believe that if all parties do not come together, it is going to be a waste of time running in 2027 because there is a full state capture happening in this country now,” he added. “For now, my job is to ensure that I have a strong party – Labour Party.”
The announcement comes amidst growing speculation that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, may join the race for Lagos State Governor in 2027.
Criticism of Tinubu’s Reforms
During the interview, Rhodes-Vivour also weighed in on President Bola Tinubu’s controversial economic reforms, accusing the government of benefiting its cronies while leaving ordinary Nigerians in hardship.
Tinubu’s reforms, including the removal of the fuel subsidy, the floating of the naira, and proposed tax policies, have faced backlash. Nigeria’s inflation reached 34.6 percent in November, with Tinubu projecting a drop to 15 percent by 2025.
Rhodes-Vivour argued that these reforms have exacerbated the struggles of Nigerians, particularly in terms of basic needs like transportation, food, and housing.
“The people are experiencing unprecedented hardship. Today, over 70 percent of people’s income is spent on transportation and food. They’ve not even started to think about how they can afford accommodation,” he stated.
He further criticized what he described as a culture of wastefulness and extravagance among government officials, adding that the benefits of Tinubu’s policies seem to be limited to a select group of elites.
“The only people that seem to be benefitting from these reforms are maybe the bankers, the people in government, and the President’s friends. How many Nigerians can say they are benefitting from any reform right now?”
