Many Mouths Dabble In As Basketmouth’s Ex, Elsie Ignites New Debate
By Benjamin Abioye
Elsie Okpocha, the ex-wife of popular comedian Basketmouth, has stirred a heated conversation on social media regarding parental rights and boundaries.
She raised concerns about being denied access to her 16-year-old son’s phone after his father allegedly told him not to share his phone password with her. In a series of posts, Elsie expressed her frustration, questioning why a mother wouldn’t be allowed to have access to her teenage child’s phone.
One of Elsie’s posts asked, “Is a mother not supposed to have access to her 16-year-old’s phone?”
This question quickly captured the attention of many, leading to intense debates online about whether parents should monitor their children’s phones or respect their privacy. Elsie later added, “Tell me why a father should tell his 16-year-old son not to give his mother his password?”
Her words suggested that someone was trying to interfere with her efforts to foster a close and open relationship with her son.
The post sparked varied opinions. Some social media users supported Elsie, arguing that parental supervision is necessary to ensure a child’s safety online. Others, however, believed that teaching teenagers about privacy and trust is important, and that access to a child’s phone should be a matter discussed openly between parents.
Reactions to Elsie’s posts came from several users, who expressed their own views on the matter.
Cassidy Ozarah Chukwudalu responded with confusion, asking, “Why do you leave for the first place anyhow?” This comment seemed to be a reaction to something Elsie had mentioned previously, though the context wasn’t entirely clear.
Johnson Sim also weighed in with a direct question: “What are you doing with son password?” His reaction appeared to challenge the actions of the individual who had told the son not to share the password.
Meanwhile, Musbau Sulyman criticized the public airing of family matters on social media. He stated, “No sympathy for you here, go and retrace your steps,” urging Elsie to reconsider her approach to the issue.
Oroshiakose Samuel found the entire situation “interesting,” showing a more neutral stance with minimal engagement.
Dotun Oladele focused on the broader issue of parenting, emphasizing that parents should unite in their approach to raising children. He wrote, “As parents, we should not antagonize ourselves over parental control,” suggesting that working together is more important than letting differences drive a wedge between parents.
The debate surrounding Elsie’s concerns continues to unfold, with opinions sharply divided on the balance between parental authority and a child’s privacy.
