The Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Adewale Adeniran, has confirmed the arrest of a police officer who was responsible for the death of a nursing mother, Ifeoluwa Adekalu in Ekiti.

The officer, a member of the Special Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ekiti State Command, allegedly killed Miss Ifeoluwa Adekalu, a young mother of one, at the Okela police post in Ado Ekiti on Thursday afternoon.

It was reported that the incident occurred when the deceased, a nursing mother, was crossing the road near the police post. The officer, who had come from another station, fired a gun in celebration after hearing the news of a colleague’s promotion. Unfortunately, the bullet hit Ifeoluwa, who was rushed to the hospital but was later confirmed dead.

Commissioner Adeniran stated that the officer will undergo proper interrogation in line with the Nigerian Police Act.

Ifeoluwa Adekalu, originally from Ondo State, had been struggling to make ends meet in Ado Ekiti. She worked as a station attendant at BOVAS Petrol Station and also as a hotel worker at several establishments, including Delight, Midas, and Prosperous Hotels in the area.

The Ekiti Police Command is making arrangements to return her body to her family in Ondo State for burial.
