The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has announced that it is close to completing the selection process for its Youth Internship Scheme, which is designed to empower 10,000 young people.

The scheme will offer year-long internships, providing valuable experience for the participants.

The NDDC released a statement explaining that more than 3.2 million individuals applied for the program. This high number of applicants shows the tremendous potential of the youth in the Niger Delta region.

The commission assured everyone that the selection process is being carried out in a fair and transparent manner. It emphasized its commitment to offering opportunities that can truly transform the region and improve the lives of young people.

The statement read: “The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has almost completed the selection of beneficiaries for its Youth Internship Scheme, which aims to empower 10,000 young people through year-long internships. With over 3.2 million applicants, the initiative reflects the immense potential of the youth in the Niger Delta. The NDDC assures stakeholders that the selection will be conducted transparently and fairly, emphasising its commitment to providing transformative opportunities that will impact the region.”

In addition to the Youth Internship Scheme, the NDDC has launched other initiatives to support the youth. One of these is the Holistic Opportunity Projects of Engagement (HOPE), which collects data on the qualifications and needs of young people in the region. This data helps the NDDC design more tailored programs. The commission has also partnered with KPMG to strengthen its governance and accountability, ensuring that its operations remain ethical and transparent.

As the selection process nears its end, the NDDC has urged stakeholders to be patient. The statement continued: “As the selection process wraps up, the NDDC calls for patience from stakeholders, affirming its dedication to creating a brighter future through innovation and empowerment for the youth of the Niger Delta region.”
