WAEC Introduces Early Resit Exam
By Benjamin Abioye
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled an innovative program allowing students to resit their WASSCE exams as early as January and February 2025. This marks a significant shift from the traditional system, where candidates had to wait for the next private exam cycle.
John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, announced the initiative of resit named WASSCE PC1, during an appearance on a program in Ghana on December 31. He explained that this program offers students a faster route to improve their grades.
“Students who wish to resit any subjects can register online via our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés by January 8. The exams will take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025,” Kapi stated.
To assist candidates, WAEC will expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports, which outline common errors and provide strategies for improvement. “These reports will guide students in identifying and correcting mistakes to enhance their performance,” Kapi added.
WAEC has been actively promoting the program through various channels, including banners, its official website, and the results checker platform, ensuring that students and parents are fully informed about the opportunity.
Kapi clarified that students whose results were canceled are also eligible to register, provided they are not under a ban for malpractice. Initially, the exams will be conducted in regional capitals due to the smaller number of expected candidates.
He emphasized the importance of completing registration by the January 8 deadline, stating that the initiative aims to help students improve their grades quickly and avoid prolonged academic delays.
The council expressed optimism that WASSCE PC1 will help students meet admission requirements for the upcoming academic cycle, reducing disruptions to their educational progress.
