Soludo Nnamdi on Kanu release Anambra

The Anambra State Government has rejected claims that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is opposed to the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, issued a statement denouncing the allegations, stating that they were being spread by desperate politicians who are threatened by Soludo’s successful leadership.

Mefor clarified that Governor Soludo has been actively working towards Nnamdi Kanu’s release, hoping it would bring peace to the Southeast region. He emphasized that these claims were false and politically motivated, meant to undermine Soludo’s achievements.

Mefor said, “It has become imperative to address the misinformation circulating in the media space regarding Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s alleged reluctance to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This misinformation has been peddled by desperate opposition politicians who are intimidated by Soludo’s impressive achievements in office.”

The Commissioner pointed out that Soludo had visited Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility, offering to take him on administrative bail and assuring the authorities of his availability when required. Mefor added, “Contrary to the false claims, Governor Soludo has been actively working towards Nnamdi Kanu’s release, as he hopes that Kanu’s release will help restore peace and stability in the South East. He has demonstrated his commitment to this cause through his actions and public statements. Notably, Governor Soludo visited Nnamdi Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility, where he offered to take Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on administrative bail and assured authorities of his availability whenever needed.”

The statement also addressed the spread of misinformation by opposition figures, labeling it baseless and politically driven. Mefor urged the public to focus on the progress being made under Soludo’s leadership and emphasized the importance of unity in tackling insecurity in the region for a better future. He said, “It is essential to look beyond the propaganda and recognize the progress being made, as well as the need for all to cooperate with the government to deal decisively with insecurity in the state. By working together, we can overcome our region’s challenges and build a safer, more prosperous future for all.”

Additionally, Mefor expressed concern about criminals hijacking the Biafra agitation for their own gain. These individuals have turned the movement into a business, involving themselves in kidnapping, robbery, and ritual killings. Mefor noted, “Governor Soludo is deeply concerned about the hijacking of the Biafra agitation by criminals. These individuals have turned the agitation into a lucrative enterprise, engaging in kidnapping, robbery, ritual killings, and other heinous crimes for ransom.” He added, “This development has not only undermined the legitimacy of the Biafra agitation but has also posed a significant threat to the security and stability of the South East region. The hijack of the Biafra agitation by criminals has had severe consequences for the people of the South East. The region has witnessed a surge in violent crimes, including kidnapping, robbery, and ritual killings. These crimes have not only claimed lives but have also caused widespread fear and insecurity among the population.” Mefor further explained, “Furthermore, this hijack has undermined the economic development of the region, as investors are reluctant to invest in an environment characterized by violence and insecurity.”
