In a significant policy shift aimed at enhancing convenience for graduates, the University of Ilorin, (UNILORIN) has introduced a courier service option for the collection of unclaimed certificates.

Unilorin new initiative for certificate collection marks a departure from the institution’s previous policy, which restricted certificate collection to only the original holder in person.

GWG.ng reports that the university already issued a strict ultimatum for graduates to collect their unclaimed certificates, introducing penalties for late compliance.

In a statement released on Sunday by M.A. Alfanla, the management of Unilorin announced that Friday, January 17, 2025, as the final date for all graduates—undergraduate and postgraduate—to retrieve their certificates.

The university warned that failure to meet this certificate collection deadline would attract a penalty of ₦3,000 for each week of delay.

However, this new method of certificates collection was announced by the university’s registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, in a memo issued last Friday. He explained that the new system allows graduates to receive their certificates through courier delivery, eliminating the need for physical presence.

According to the memo, individuals opting for courier collection must submit key documents to the registrar’s office, including:

Original statement of result,

Court affidavit,

A completed indemnity form (available for download),

The data page of a valid international passport (for applicants residing abroad).

The memo further provides access to information regarding payment requirements, indemnity forms, and courier charges through a designated link.

For those who still prefer in-person collection, certificates can be picked up at the University Auditorium basement on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

This initiative is expected to greatly benefit Unilorin alumni, particularly those living outside Nigeria, by making the certificate collection process more efficient and accessible.
