Elon Musk, CEO of X and Tesla, is reportedly interested in purchasing Liverpool Football Club, according to comments from his father, Errol Musk.

Speculation about Musk’s potential interest began after the British newspaper ‘Weekend Sport’ claimed that the billionaire was exploring a move to acquire the Premier League club. While the initial report lacked substantial evidence, Errol Musk has now hinted at his son’s intentions.

During an interview with ‘Times Radio’, Errol was asked about Elon’s possible plans to buy Liverpool. He responded, “I can’t comment on that, they’ll raise the price! Oh yes, [he has expressed an interest], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.” He added, “He would like to, yes, obviously. Anybody would want to. So would I!”

Elon Musk, with a staggering net worth of $426.5 billion according to ‘Forbes’, could easily afford to buy the club, which is valued at $5.37 billion and ranked as the fourth most expensive football team globally.

Errol Musk also shared some personal connections to Liverpool, stating, “[Elon’s] grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool. We were fortunate to know quite a few of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know.”

Currently, Liverpool is owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which also holds ownership stakes in the Boston Red Sox (MLB) and Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL). In recent years, FSG has shown openness to minority investments, such as the partnership with Dynasty Equity in September 2023.

Despite the rumors, it is unclear whether Elon Musk will proceed with a formal offer. For now, the speculation adds another layer of distraction for Liverpool as they compete in a tight Premier League title race. Already facing uncertainty surrounding key players like Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, the talk of new ownership fuels further debate about the club’s future as the 2024–25 season approaches.
