Popular Nigerian on-air personality, video jockey, and media entrepreneur Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, widely known as Do2dtun, has expressed concern over reports that a prominent radio station has failed to pay its employees for eight months. His remarks have sparked widespread reactions online, shedding light on the struggles faced by workers in the media industry.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Do2dtun criticized the management of the station, believed to be Soundcity. He wrote, “It’s not by force to open a radio station. Owing your staffs for 8 months is very cruel and inhumane. You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you this.”

In the same post, he directly addressed the station’s employees, stating: “My friends and colleagues at Soundcity, how do you guys cope? No salary for 8 months? Mehn, that’s crazy!!!!”

Do2dtun’s post has triggered a wave of reactions from fans, industry professionals, and concerned citizens, many of whom are shocked that a well-established brand like Soundcity is involved in such allegations.

YOM🗣️ (@ThaBoyYom) expressed disbelief, tweeting: “A whole Soundcity? Tf.”

Another user, Lola Okunrin (@lollypeezle), reminisced about Soundcity’s former glory, stating: “This is a company men were hustling to be part of back in the days. Oh my.”

Solz (@dprince009) commented on the station’s reputation, writing: “So Soundcity is the station your tweet is talking about? But Soundcity used to be very big and still is. Ohhhh, now I believe @DENRELE_EDUN when he said the reason why he left was because he was being owed.”

Many questioned how employees could continue working without pay for such an extended period. OLUWATOBI (@lckygod) tweeted: “I don’t believe this. No one would stay 8 months in a place without getting paid.”

Similarly, Oseghae (@Osegeee) wondered: “How were they going to work? Which money for transport? If it were a government job, I’d know corruption was sustaining them, but Soundcity, a private station? Nah.”

Some users like Big Enrgy! 💪🌋 (@BigEnrgyy) reflected on the financial struggles employees might face, stating: “Can’t even imagine how they’re coping. They must have a few debts unless they have another reliable source of income because 8 months is a lot.”

Others pointed out past grievances associated with the station. Obiwankenobi (@Emperor0012) tweeted: “Isn’t it the same media house VJ Adams complained about some years ago?”

The allegations against Soundcity also sparked fears about the state of other media houses. BABAYEGA (@PeterLanlehin) wrote: “Hope HipTv and MTVBase no dey owe sha. How will those people even survive with many depending on that salary?”

Another user, Khaleb (@Dreal_calebito), speculated that declining interest in music video platforms might have affected Soundcity’s financial stability, tweeting: “Soundcity don go bankrupt. No one watches music videos anymore.”

Do2dtun’s revelations have ignited conversations about workers’ rights and employer accountability in the Nigerian media industry. While Soundcity has yet to respond to the allegations, many are calling for immediate action to address the reported unpaid salaries and ensure fair treatment of employees.

The public continues to demand transparency and a resolution to this issue, as it raises broader questions about sustainability and ethics in the media sector.
