Anambra Under Siege As Kidnappers Pick Catholic Nuns

The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, have confirmed the abduction of two of their members in Anambra State, calling on the public for prayers for their safe return.

In a statement released by Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, Secretary General of the Immaculate Heart Generalate, named the victims of the abduction as Sr. Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Sr. Grace Mariette Okoli, were kidnapped on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, while traveling along Ufuma Road on their way back from a Vocational Association meeting in Ogboji.

Sr. Vincentia Maria serves as the Principal of Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Model Secondary School, Ufuma, while Sr. Grace Mariette is a teacher at Immaculata Girls Model Secondary School, Nnewi.

The congregation expressed deep concern over the abduction and urged for fervent prayers for the swift and unconditional release of the abducted sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. “We commend our sisters to the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary for their speedy release from the hands of their kidnappers,” the statement read.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary congregation solicited the support of the faithful to remain prayerful, hoping that the nuns will soon return safely following the abduction.

As of the time of this report, the police authorities in Anambra are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
