The legal team representing Nigerian singer Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has announced its readiness to meet the bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The team of Deji Adeyanju and Partners, stated it would visit the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) with a surety to fulfill the requirements.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (FIB), DIG Galadanchi, dated January 8, 2025, the law firm emphasized its commitment to securing the release of its client. The letter, titled “Re: Unlawful Detention of Darlington Achakpo,” referenced a court order issued by Justice M. S. Liman on December 23, 2024, which directed the police to either charge Speed Darlington within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.

Part of the letter read: “As you are no doubt aware, the Federal High Court… directed the police authorities to charge our client to court within 48 hours or release him unconditionally. A copy of the order is attached herein for ease of reference. On January 6, 2025, the court reiterated the order and urged the police authorities to release him to the lead counsel, Marshal Abubakar, who shall produce him in court for trial.”

The legal team explained that despite being served with bail terms on January 6, 2025, which included providing a Grade Level 16 Civil Servant as a surety, their efforts to comply with the conditions faced obstacles. “On January 7, 2025, Marshal Abubakar, Esq., and Mazi David Ihuoma, Esq., visited the FIB with a surety to fulfill the bail conditions. However, calls and messages to you, DIG Galadanchi, went unanswered,” the letter stated.

Reaffirming their intentions, the letter concluded: “Please note that Marshal Abubakar, Esq., and Mazi David Ihuoma, Esq., will be coming to the FIB on January 8, 2025, with a surety to fulfill the bail conditions you imposed. Whilst anticipating your favourable response and maximum cooperation, please accept our esteemed professional regards.”
