By Gideon Ayeni
A young couple, identified as Princess Okolie and her boyfriend, Prince Atigbi, have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly staging a fake kidnapping to extort N2 million from Princess’ parents.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Wednesday. According to the statement, the fake kidnapping incident occurred on December 30, 2024, when Princess, in a calculated plot, visited her boyfriend’s home and convinced him to participate in the scheme. Acting on her instructions, Prince contacted her parents and falsely claimed she had been abducted, demanding a ransom for her “release.”
Princess’ worried mother promptly reported the alleged kidnapping to the police, prompting swift action from the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad.
SP Edafe shared insights into the case: “The mum reported to the command that her child, Princess had been kidnapped. We did our job as usual, and boom! The mum got the shock of her life. See what children of these days do to their parents.”
Following the report, Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed CSP Labe Joseph and his team to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the suspect’s arrest. The squad launched an intelligence-driven investigation, eventually apprehending Prince Atigbi after he had collected the ransom of N2 million.
During interrogation, Prince admitted that he was not a real kidnapper but was merely acting on the instructions of his girlfriend, Princess. Upon her arrest, Princess confessed that she orchestrated the kidnapping to extort money from her parents.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, and the recovered ransom money has been secured as evidence. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda, used the occasion to caution parents and guardians about the importance of proper upbringing, emphasizing the need to instill godly values in children. He warned that failure to do so could lead to societal issues, adding: “Parents should raise their children in the ways of God so that when they grow, they will not become a problem to their families and society.”
