Jubilation In Kano As Emir Sanusi Wins Legal Battle
By Benjamin Abioye
Celebrations broke out in Kano city after the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, in a significant legal battle over the Emirship.
Supporters, including both young and old, marked the occasion with music, dancing, and other joyful festivities.
The ruling by the Court of Appeal, held in Abuja, has finally brought relief to the long-running dispute that had caused instability within the Kano Emirate.
The conflict began in May 2024 when Governor Abba Yusuf dissolved all the Emirates, removing the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from office while he was away. This allowed for the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir, and he was promptly moved to the Kofar-Kudu palace to assume the throne.
After Bayero returned to Kano, he was forced to take residence in the Nassarawa mini palace, where he currently continues to hold court.
