Raheem Okoya Apologizes Over Naira Abuse Saga

Raheem Okoya, one of the sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, has issued an apology to Nigerians following the release of a viral video showing the abuse of naira notes.

The video, which included his brother Wahab and a police officer, attracted significant public criticism and led to disciplinary actions against the officer involved.

In a statement shared on Friday via X, Raheem explained, “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive. I ask for your forgiveness and support in this situation, as I had no intention to raise such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”

GWG.ng recalls that the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared on his X account that the officer had been detained. “The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman, Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira, has been identified and detained for disciplinary action,” he stated.

He added, “The involvement of the policeman has been condemned, as it’s unethical. We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police.”

The video, which quickly spread online, showed the Okoya brothers wearing traditional agbada attire while flaunting stacks of N1000 notes. They used the cash to promote Raheem’s new song, “Credit Alert,” tossing the notes into the air as a mobile police officer in uniform held bundles of cash.

The incident sparked public outrage, with many questioning whether the sons of a prominent individual would face any consequences. While the officer is facing disciplinary measures, no information has been shared about any sanctions against the Okoya brothers.
