Alaafin Oyo, Prince Owoade

Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been announced as the new Alaafin of Oyo, following his approval by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed that Owoade’s selection as the Alaafin of Oyo came after extensive consultations and divinations by the Oyomesi, the kingmakers of Oyo. His appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership of the ancient Oyo Kingdom.

Born in 1978, Prince Owoade hails from the Owoade-Agunloye royal family in Oyo town. He is one of the surviving children of Pa Rasaki Ibiyosi Owoade, a descendant of Aremo Aderounmu Iyanda Owoade of Agure Compound, Oyo. His father’s contributions to agricultural development in Oyo North, through the Oyo North Agricultural Development Programme (ONADEP), left a lasting legacy in the region.

The new Alaafin of Oyo, Prince Owoade began his educational journey at Baptist High School, Saki, where he graduated in 1992. He developed an early passion for engineering, earning a National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro (1994–1997) and the Polytechnic, Ibadan (1999–2001). He later completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program as a Mechanical Intern/Planner with the Nigeria Gas Company in 2002.

His career path took him to Oceanic Bank International Plc, Warri, where he worked as a teller between 2003 and 2004. Driven by a desire for further education, Owoade earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Sunderland in 2008, followed by a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northumbria University in 2012. He became certified in Project Management in 2015.

Owoade’s professional experience spans roles in the United Kingdom and Canada. He served as a Planning Engineer at Oil Reach Company, Glasgow, before relocating to Canada. Currently, he is the Project Coordinator at Manitoba Hydro, a leading electric power and natural gas utility company. He is also the President of 100279 Manitoba Limited, a real estate investment and financial services enterprise.

Known for his philanthropic spirit and entrepreneurial acumen, Owoade’s ascension to the throne as the new Alaafin of Oyo is expected to bring innovation and progress to the Oyo Kingdom. His global exposure and leadership experience promise a dynamic reign rooted in cultural heritage and modern governance.
