Four Killed As Terrorists Attack Major Nigerian Immigration Centre
By Benjamin Abioye
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) confirmed that a terrorist attack occurred at its facility in Gumki, a border town in Kebbi State.
The attack, believed to be carried out by the Lakurawa terrorist group, resulted in the deaths of four people and significant damage to security infrastructure.
NIS spokesperson KT Udo released a statement on Sunday, explaining that three contractors working on a telecom mast and a local watchman were killed.
No Nigerian immigration officers were harmed during the attack by the terrorists. Udo, however, clarified, “The attack led to the death of four persons, including a local watchman and three contractors. We also recorded substantial damages to our security facilities. No immigration officers were killed during the attack.”
The damaged facilities included telecom masts that were part of the NIS’s efforts to improve border security. Udo expressed the NIS’s condolences to the victims’ families and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s border security. “We are actively working alongside our sister agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts and bring them to justice,” he added. “The service remains resolute and undeterred in carrying out its core mandate of border security.”
The terrorist attack on the Nigerian Immigration facility has been linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group, which is believed to have blown up a network mast in Gumki. Security sources also reported that the group recently rustled over 200 cattle in Natsini village, in Argungu Local Government Area.
The Lakurawa group, which initially formed as a self-defense militia, has grown into a radical armed group that imposes strict Islamic rules on rural communities. Their violent actions are causing widespread displacement and instability, raising fears of growing Islamic extremism in northwestern Nigeria.
