The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has announced the indefinite closure of the institution starting Monday, January 13, 2025 following protest by students of the school. This decision by the MAPOLY authorities came as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of lives and property amid ongoing student protests.

The unrest reportedly stems from the administration’s efforts to verify National Diploma results submitted by students from other institutions. Additionally, students have voiced frustrations over a rumored increase in tuition fees and delays in mobilizing Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Yemi Ajibola, the institution’s public relations officer, shared the announcement in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

The statement read, “Management expressed its zero tolerance to fake results from any quarters. Consequent upon this, students have been advised to stay away from the campus in their interests, as parents and the general public are assured of a timely update as events unfold.”

The situation has drawn attention to broader concerns about the verification process and its impact on students, with the administration reiterating its commitment to maintaining integrity and transparency within the institution.

GWG.ng reports that the protest by the MAPOLY students at the beginning of the new year is bound to hang a cloud over the prospects of the school’s academic calendar.
