‘Blues Brothers’ Actress Dalyce Curry Dies In California Fire
By Benjamin Abioye
95-year-old Dalyce Curry who appeared in classic films like ‘The Blues Brothers’ tragically lost her life in the recent devastating wildfires in Southern California it has emerged.
Her family received the heartbreaking news on Sunday evening, January 12, when the coroner confirmed her body had been found in the remains of her home in Altadena, which had been destroyed by the fire.
Curry’s granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, had dropped her off at her house late on Tuesday, unaware of the fire’s impending spread. The following morning, Kelley received an alert about a power outage at her grandmother’s house. Rushing to check on her, Kelley was stopped by police at a barricade and was told that the house had “totally burned down.” She was advised to check the Pasadena Civic Center, a location where displaced residents were being sent, but she was unable to find her grandmother.
On Friday, a National Guard member took Kelley to the site, where she saw “total devastation.” “Everything was gone except her blue Cadillac,” Kelley recalled. Before her death was confirmed, Kelley had hoped for a miracle, saying, “Honestly, we don’t feel very hopeful that she’s still here with us.”
In addition to her role in The Blues Brothers, Curry appeared in other films like Lady Sings the Blues and The Ten Commandments. Another of Curry’s granddaughters, Loree Beamer-Wilkinson, reflected on her grandmother’s vitality, saying, “She was still very active, you would not think she was 95.”
At least 24 people have been confirmed dead due to the fires in Los Angeles, as reported by CBS News.
