Omo-Agege Clears The Air On Defecting From APC
By Benjamin Abioye
Former Deputy Senate President and 2023 Delta State APC governorship candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed claims that he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media adviser, Sunny Areh, Omo-Agege described the allegations as a “failed hatchet job” by a journalist willing to write falsehoods for money.
The controversy arose after an online magazine, ‘The Will,’ alleged that Omo-Agege was working with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to create a new political party. Responding to this claim, the statement said, “Our attention has been drawn to the January 12, 2025 publication of ‘The Will.’ The story is not only shocking but idiotic. Associating his name with the alleged political group is a fable without any basis whatsoever.”
Omo-Agege emphasized his dedication to the APC, citing the party’s record-breaking performance under his leadership during the 2023 elections in Delta State. He highlighted how the party secured two of the state’s three senatorial seats, calling it a historic achievement.
He suggested that the recent report was part of a political scheme to sow discord between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Assuring APC supporters of his commitment, he said, “Let it be known that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege remains irrevocably committed to the APC. Together with other progressive forces, he will steer Delta State toward true prosperity in 2027.”
Omo-Agege urged APC members to disregard the rumors and focus on the party’s goals for Delta State’s development.
He also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, noting that his economic reforms were bringing positive change. “President Tinubu’s agenda for re-tooling Nigeria’s economy to a productive one is bearing fruit, and the people are testifying to renewed hope,” he said.
The senator reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and his belief in its mission to drive growth and prosperity in Delta State and beyond.
