Nigerian actor Lateef Adedimeji recently revealed the unique way he proposed to his wife, actress Bimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji, sharing that their love story began with an unexpected phone call.

In an interview on the ‘With Chude Podcast’, Lateef Adedimeji opened up about how he took an unconventional approach to ask for her hand in marriage.

Adedimeji recalled that he initially proposed over the phone, but Bimpe didn’t take him seriously. “I called her and told her I wanted to ask her something, then I told her I wanted to marry her. She was just joking, like, ‘What is doing this one? Get out! I can’t marry a Muslim; are you okay? My daddy won’t even hear that,’” he shared.

He explained that Bimpe’s reluctance was due to concerns over her father’s acceptance, given his Islamic faith. Nevertheless, Lateef Adedimeji was determined to make it work. “We went to her village during one of their masquerade festivals, and towards the end, I asked to see her dad. I promised him that I’d take care of his daughter, and he said he’d pray and get back to me, and that was it,” he said.

Despite the light-hearted nature of the proposal, Lateef Adedimeji also addressed a common misconception about their relationship. While many people assumed they had been dating for a long time, the couple only dated for about two to three months before they got married. “The proposal wasn’t planned because we just dated for like two, three months and then we got married,” he revealed.
