A Lagos commercial driver has reportedly been left blind in the course of a struggle for his steering by a policeman allegedly triggered by a dispute over a ₦200 demand.

The confrontation with the policeman reportedly escalated into a dangerous struggle for control of the vehicle, leading to a tragic accident that left the Lagos driver severely injured and allegedly blind. The exact location of the incident in Lagos has, however, not been confirmed.

In the online footage, the visibly elderly policeman could be seen sitting inside the damaged vehicle, while agitated bystanders gathered around, preventing him from leaving the scene. The injured driver, lying with his head supported by the police, appeared motionless as onlookers expressed their shock and dismay.

This unfortunate event happened just days after a similar situation involving a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officer, who reportedly wrestled a driver for control of a steering wheel. That altercation also ended in a serious accident, raising public concern about the recurring nature of such dangerous confrontations between law enforcement officers and motorists.

Calls for thorough investigations and better law enforcement practices have intensified following these back-to-back incidents, with citizens demanding accountability and justice for the driver reportedly made blind on account of the struggle with the Lagos policeman.
