Nigerian Footballer Collapses, Dies During Match

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Adeyemi Adewale, a footballer, during a match in Osogbo, the state capital.
Adeyemi Adewale, a player from the Ilesa West Local Government Area football team, reportedly collapsed on the pitch and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
According to reports, he was pronounced dead by a doctor at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital. Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.
The statement read: “Today (Thursday), during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final match at Ataoja School of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale, a 29-year-old player for the Ilesa West Football team, slumped on the pitch. He was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where a doctor later confirmed him dead.”
Opalola added that an investigation is underway, and Adewale’s body has been moved to the morgue at Uniosun Teaching Hospital.
In a separate development, Governor Ademola Adeleke has imposed a curfew in two communities in Osun State—Ifon and Ilobu—following renewed tensions. The curfew, which runs from 7 pm to 7 am, was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
