2 Actresses Banned Over Controversial Video

The Kano State Censorship Board has issued a ban on popular Kannywood singer Usman Sojaboy and actresses Shamsiyya Muhammad and Hasina Suzan, barring them from participating in any film industry activities within the state.
The ban on the Kannywood actresses comes after the release of a video deemed by the board to promote behavior that contradicts Kano’s cultural and religious norms. The video sparked public outrage and drew criticism from religious leaders, intensifying calls for stricter oversight of the local entertainment sector.
In a statement signed by the board’s Information Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, it was revealed that Sojaboy had previously received multiple warnings regarding the use of inappropriate and offensive content in his works. The board expressed disappointment over his failure to adhere to these cautions.
Abba El-Mustapha, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, directed the preview unit to strictly enforce the ban of the actresses and singer across Kannywood. He emphasized that the affected entertainers are prohibited from featuring in any Kannywood productions, while entertainment venues and theaters across the state have been instructed to comply fully with the directive.
The board reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on indecency within the entertainment industry, warning that it would continue to take decisive action against content creators violating moral standards. The statement concluded by affirming that Sojaboy, Muhammad, and Suzan are no longer recognized as members of the Kannywood community.
