Nigeria made history in the International Cricket Council, ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup by securing their first-ever victory, defeating New Zealand by just two runs.

This thrilling match against New Zealand marked Nigeria’s first-ever World Cup appearance after their initial game was washed out. The match was shortened to 13 overs per side, and Nigeria was led by their captain, Lucky Piety, who hit the first-ever World Cup six for the team. However, New Zealand fought back with tight bowling, taking two quick wickets to leave Nigeria at 28 for 3 after the powerplay. Lilian Ude top-scored with 19 runs, and with a four off the final ball from Omosigho Eguakun, Nigeria set a target of 66 runs.

New Zealand began their chase with early setbacks, as Kate Irwin was run out on the first ball, and Emma McLeod fell for just three runs. Despite a solid partnership between Eve Wolland and Anika Todd, Nigeria regained control with key wickets. Ude bowled a perfect final over, conceding only six runs and sealing the victory with a run out on the last ball, giving Nigeria a historic win.

Meanwhile, the USA also made history with their first-ever U19 Women’s T20 World Cup victory, beating Ireland by nine wickets. Isani Vaghela played a pivotal role with the ball, taking three wickets for 10 runs. Ireland, after a strong start by Alice Walsh, collapsed under pressure, finishing their innings at 74 all out. The USA chased down the target easily, with Disha Dhingra scoring 46 runs off 33 balls. She was supported by Chetna Reddy Pagydyala, and Vaghela sealed the win with a first-ball four, securing a comprehensive nine-wicket victory.

In another exciting match, Australia avenged their defeat to Bangladesh in the previous tournament with a narrow two-wicket victory. Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships and finished with 91 for 9 in their 20 overs. Australia’s chase was not smooth, as they lost several wickets, including five for 17 runs. However, Ella Briscoe and Tegan Williamson held their nerve and guided Australia home with four balls to spare.

In brief, the results from the matches were as follows:

– Australia defeated Bangladesh by 2 wickets.

– USA defeated Ireland by 9 wickets.

– Nigeria defeated New Zealand by 2 runs.

These thrilling victories added a new chapter to the tournament, with both Nigeria and the USA making historic strides in the competition.
