Former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha has called on football fans across Nigeria to unite and support the newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle. Chelle’s appointment has sparked mixed reactions from both fans and analysts.

Okocha has in his reaction, however, asserted that a unified approach is necessary for the team to succeed during the transitional period.

Okocha, who had a distinguished career with the national team, emphasized that Chelle’s success relies not only on his leadership but also on the backing from fans and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). He explained that the success of the Super Eagles depends on the collective support of everyone involved in Nigerian football.

In an interview with Lagos Talks FM, Okocha pointed out that the NFF made the decision to appoint Chelle. He stressed that the focus now should be on ensuring that Chelle has the necessary resources and support to carry out his plans for the team. “We should give him a chance to do his job and must support him and the NFF. If we come together as one, there is a greater chance for us to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Okocha said.

The former Bolton Wanderers star also highlighted the benefits of the Super Eagles’ success on the global stage. “We all want the team to qualify for the World Cup because we all benefit when they are doing well,” he added. Okocha’s message was clear: for the Super Eagles to succeed, unity and support are crucial from both fans and officials alike.
