An Ilesa Magistrate Court in Osun State has ordered a woman, Rhoda Adu, to pay ₦150,000 to her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after failing to fulfill a promise to visit him despite collecting ₦3,000 as transport fare.

The case stemmed from an incident in which Sola transferred ₦3,000 to his girlfriend, Rhoda to facilitate her visit. However, after receiving the money, Rhoda reportedly switched off her phone and did not show up. Feeling deceived and emotionally affected, Sola filed a complaint at the Ayeso Police Station, leading to Rhoda’s arrest and subsequent arraignment.

During the court proceedings, Sola presented evidence, including transaction receipts of the mobile money transfer and WhatsApp conversations between him and Rhoda, to substantiate his claim.

Delivering judgment, Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled in favor of Sola, ordering Rhoda to refund the ₦3,000 transport fare. Additionally, she was directed to pay ₦100,000 for breach of agreement and an extra ₦50,000 as compensation for emotional distress.

The court noted that the ruling was meant to serve as a deterrent to individuals who might engage in similar acts of dishonesty.
