Lagos Lawmakers Warn Obasa, Say His Time Is Over
By Benjamin Abioye

Lagos State House of Assembly has defended its decision to impeach Mudashiru Obasa, warning him against destabilizing actions while supporting new Speaker Mojisola Meranda.
The Lagos State House of Assembly has issued a stern warning to its impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, urging him not to take actions that could disrupt the legislative body or escalate political tensions.
This comes after Obasa, who returned from the United States on Saturday, addressed his supporters and claimed that his removal as Speaker was not carried out properly.
In a statement released on Saturday, signed by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, the lawmakers affirmed their support for the impeachment decision made on January 13. They emphasized that Obasa’s removal was based on allegations of misconduct and mismanagement.
The lawmakers also reiterated the Assembly’s full backing for the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, and affirmed that over two-thirds of the members were united behind her leadership.
“It is important to clarify that over two-thirds of the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are fully behind the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda,” the statement read.
The lawmakers stressed that the impeachment decision was within their constitutional rights. “All members were elected from their various constituencies, and we have the inalienable right under statutory orders to remove our principal officers, including the Speaker,” said Olukayode.
The Assembly condemned Obasa’s actions as “uncalled for and unparliamentary” and urged him to seek peace for the good of the state. “I appeal to the former Speaker to embrace peace and harmony as the current intransigent posture will only stir up tensions and harm the polity,” Olukayode warned.
The lawmakers concluded with a commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the Assembly and ensuring peace in Lagos State. “Peace is what we want in Lagos, and peace is what we will achieve,” they stated.
Obasa’s removal was a result of allegations of misconduct and mismanagement.
