Obasa supporters Ikeja welcome

Supporters of the recently impeached Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, gathered in large numbers on Saturday morning at his residence on Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja.

The crowd, wearing pro-Obasa attire such as vests and caps are massing to receive him following his trip to the United States. The supporters are say they want to accord him what they describe as a “heroic welcome.”

Obasa, who was removed from office following a majority vote in the Assembly, has been replaced by Mojisola Meranda, the former deputy speaker. Since the impeachment, Meranda has presided over two sittings in Obasa’s absence. Notably, Obasa was out of the country when the impeachment took place.

There is increasing debate over the use of the Speaker’s Lodge, as Obasa is no longer entitled to the residence following his removal. One local resident expressed surprise, stating, “I didn’t expect that the lodge would be opened for them.”

To ensure peace and security, armed police officers have been stationed in the area to maintain order and prevent any disturbances. As of the time of reporting, Obasa had not yet appeared at his residence.
