The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has revealed that notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji has expressed willingness to surrender following sustained military offensives that have dismantled his network.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics, General Musa disclosed that Turji’s operations have been severely weakened, with the military neutralizing his second-in-command and several key lieutenants.

“They [terrorists] operate within communities, and people know them. But by the time we get the information and act, they’ve often moved. However, we have taken out his second-in-command and many of his lieutenants. He has been forced to release most of the people under him and is now signaling his readiness to surrender,” General Musa explained.

Despite Turji’s reported willingness to lay down arms, the Defence Chief was clear that individuals responsible for the killing of innocent citizens must not escape justice. “We want to take everybody out. Anybody who has killed innocent people should not be allowed to stay. People like him must face the consequences,” Musa emphasized.

The military’s recent operations under Operation Fansan Yamma have delivered significant blows to Turji’s camp. According to a statement by Defence Director Edward Buba, troops neutralized several high-ranking members of Turji’s network, including Aminu Kanawa, his second-in-command.

Others taken out include Dosso (Turji’s younger brother), Danbokolo (a close ally), and commanders such as Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe.

Additionally, over 24 fleeing terrorists from Turji’s camp were neutralized in operations around Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, as well as Gidan Rijiya in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The military’s relentless pressure on Turji and his associates has weakened their stronghold, with significant progress in dismantling their operations. However, General Musa reiterated the military’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in acts of terror are held accountable.
