Suspected kidnappers attacked Garo town in Kabo Local Government Area, Kano State, early on Sunday morning, abducting a young woman named Zainab after extorting ₦8 million from her family.

The kidnappers who were around 10 in number, targeted the home of a prominent businessman, Alhaji Auwal, in Garo Sabuwar Unguwa, striking around 1:20 a.m.

According to a source, three of the attackers were armed with firearms, while the remaining seven carried various other weapons. They gained entry into the house by forcing open a smaller door. “They gathered the entire family in one place, instilling fear and panic,” the source revealed.

The kidnappers demanded money, and the head of the household, concerned for the safety of his family, agreed to their terms believing that they would leave his Garo based family intact. “He handed over ₦8 million to the gunmen,” the source continued.

Despite receiving the money, the kidnappers went ahead and abducted the family’s eldest daughter, a recent secondary school graduate. The kidnappers then fled Garo, leaving the family in shock and uncertainty. The whereabouts of Zainab remains unknown as the kidnappers have not made contact with the family.

The community is now living in fear, with residents calling on authorities to address the rising insecurity in the region.

Kano Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying that an investigation has been launched to track down the kidnappers. “The police have launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators,” Kiyawa affirmed.
