Osun APC Mocks Aregbesola’s Exit
By Benjamin Abioye

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns over the recent departure of the Omoluabi Progressives, a group affiliated with former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola.
The APC described the exit of the Omoluabi Progressives as irrelevant, claiming their departure had already been evident since 2022.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, the APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, labeled the Omoluabi Progressives’ announcement as unnecessary.
He remarked, “The so-called Omoluabi Progressives leaving the APC is good riddance to bad rubbish. Many of them had been expelled or suspended long ago.”
Olabisi questioned the logic behind the group’s announcement, stating, “How can someone who has been suspended or expelled publicly resign again? That’s just an example of redundancy.” He accused the group of betraying the APC by supporting the interests of the opposition, particularly the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), long before their formal departure.
“You can’t claim to belong to our party while working against its interests. Their actions clearly showed they were agents of the PDP. It was only a matter of time before they left,” he alleged.
The spokesperson also criticized the Omoluabi Progressives for attempting to destabilize the APC, claiming their efforts to take control of the party had failed. Referring to their departure, he said, “This is the beginning of their political downfall. By the time the 2026 governorship election comes around, it will mark their final burial in politics.”
Olabisi dismissed the Omoluabi Progressives as a faction with no respect for APC elders and accused them of arrogance. “They think they are more progressive than the founders of this party,” he added.
Using a Yoruba proverb to conclude his statement, Olabisi said, “Whoever wants to bury his elder brother nakedly should prepare to face the same fate in the future.”
The exit of the Omoluabi Progressives has reignited tensions within the Osun APC, which has been grappling with internal divisions since its loss in the 2022 governorship election to the PDP.
