GWG.ng reports that Sowore was summoned to the Force Criminal Intelligence Department (FCID) in Abuja on Monday, January 27, 2025, for questioning regarding a viral video where he accused police officers at a checkpoint in Lagos of extortion. He faced allegations including resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful orders, cyberstalking, and attempts to prevent arrests.

Following the interrogation, Sowore revealed on his social media account that he had been offered administrative bail but found the conditions unacceptable. “The PoliceNG team assigned to my case has informed me that the DIG of FID, Dasuki Galandachi, has reevaluated my bail conditions, necessitating the production of a level 16 civil servant and the surrender of my international passport, a condition I have declined outright,” he posted. Sowore emphasized that he would not accept any arrangement that compromises his personal integrity.

His lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), also criticized the bail terms, citing a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal in the case of Dasuki v. Director-General, S.S.S. [2020]. In his letter to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Falana stated, “Expecting a Level 16 Servant to own property worth N100,000,000 will be running counter to the Public Service Rules and by extension the war against corruption.” He pointed out that the Court of Appeal had declared such bail conditions illegal, emphasizing that public officers should not be involved in bail arrangements for accused persons.

Sowore concluded his post by stating, “It is a wrap! The Nigeria Police Force is holding me in custody until further notice, following my refusal to accept their illegal bail condition.”
