APC A Tragedy, El-Rufai Says, Labels Bwala Mercenary
By Benjamin Abioye

Nasir El-Rufai has responded to Daniel Bwala’s criticism opening up on how he would have responded as a Bola Tinubu cabinet member to the tragedy he claims has become the fate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has hit back at Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, after Bwala criticized him for questioning the motif of the APC government which he labelled as a tragedy.
El-Rufai had before his new assertion of the APC being a tragedy previously expressed disappointment with the ruling party for failing to live up to its promises and blamed the ongoing hardships on illiterate and semi-illiterate individuals in power
In response to Bwala’s comments, El-Rufai took to his X handle to defend his position, stating that he had already told President Tinubu years ago that he had no interest in any government position. He added that Bwala and other members of the government seemed to be making an issue out of something he never wanted in the first place. “Good morning, @BwalaDaniel. I was cabinet minister 22 years ago, and was clear to Asiwaju that I was not interested in any position in his future government. The pathetic manner all of you latter-day converts to the Tinubu government make an issue of something that I never wanted in the first place is perhaps a reflection of the level of your moral flexibility,” El-Rufai wrote.
El-Rufai also made it clear that if he had remained in the Tinubu government, he would still speak out on the issues within the APC, a party he helped found. “If I had remained in the Tinubu government, I will say or do the same on the tragedy within a party I was a founder, and the government that emerged from it – first in private sessions with those concerned, and then go public if no remedial actions are taken. Go and check my public service record from 1998,” he said.
The former governor then addressed Bwala personally, saying he only responded because he believed Bwala was a decent person who might need a job. He also compared Bwala to political figures he described as “mercenaries” who blindly defend the government. “I am only responding to you because I still think you are a decent person who may need a job, and not in the class of Wendell Simlin and that Kaduna pretender that our voters retired in 2019 – these clowns are political mercenaries that receive humongous monthly stipends from the security vote to be the first to jump on X and other platforms to defend everything the Asiwaju government does or fails to do, no matter how indefensible it may be,” El-Rufai wrote.
He concluded by reminding Bwala of the importance of loyalty to God and country over allegiance to any individual or government. “Enjoy your special adviser position, my brother, but remember that allegiance to God and country comes first in human scale of accountability, before any person or authority,” El-Rufai added.
