TikTok has reaffirmed its commitment to online safety by removing over two million videos in Nigeria between July and September 2024.

According to its latest Q3 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, 99.1% of these videos were taken down within 24 hours.

With billions of users worldwide and millions of videos uploaded daily, TikTok continues to invest in technology that helps detect harmful content. This allows the platform to remove inappropriate videos before they reach viewers. Globally, TikTok removed over 147 million videos in the same period, with 118 million taken down through automation. In Nigeria, 92.1% of all removed videos were taken down before being reported by users.

The report highlights the most common reasons videos were removed in Nigeria:
Sensitive and Mature Themes – 99.4% of such videos were deleted before any user report.

Regulated Goods and Commercial Activities – 99.1% of these videos, which included scams and illegal trade content, were removed proactively.

Mental and Behavioral Health – 99.9% of videos violating this policy were taken down to protect users, especially younger audiences, from harmful content.

“TikTok’s mission to inspire creativity and bring joy is underpinned by a strong commitment to user safety, well-being, and content integrity,”the report states. The platform aims to create a positive environment where users can express themselves freely while staying safe.

To uphold this, TikTok continues to invest in Trust and Safety professionals and advanced technology to enforce its Community Guidelines. The company also collaborates with global experts to strengthen its safety measures.

The Q3 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report highlights TikTok’s leadership in content moderation and its ongoing efforts to make the platform safer for Nigerian users. The company remains committed to improving its safety policies and ensuring a secure online space for all.
