Veteran Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has praised Nigerian singer Yemi Alade for promoting African culture through her outfit at the 66th Grammy Awards, despite not winning any awards.

In a video posted on his Instagram, Agu, 69, shared his admiration for Alade’s contributions to Afrobeats and her role in highlighting African identity on the global stage.

Agu expressed his respect for Alade, saying, “Yemi Alade, you are a queen. You may not have won the Grammy, but you clearly won my heart. If nobody will say it, I, Chief Chiwetalu Agu, will give you your flowers while you can still smell them.” He commended her for not only representing Afrobeats but also using her outfit to celebrate African heritage at the prestigious event.

He continued, “You are putting African culture on the world map. Your outfit was screaming, ‘I did not come to impress you, I know my roots.’” Agu also praised Alade for her character, describing her as talented, disciplined, and a role model for young women. “Do we talk about how decent and natural you have been as an artiste or how beautiful you are as a woman? You carry yourself as a lady, a role model. Yemi, keep being the inspiration you are to many young girls,” he added.

Agu concluded his remarks by expressing his fondness for Alade and humorously wished her well in her personal life. “Chief Chiwetalu Agu admires and loves you so much. I pray you find Johnny at the right time,” he said, referring to Alade’s hit song, “Johnny.”

Agu’s comments have generated a lot of positive reactions online, with many fans applauding his support for the singer.
